Get an AI to write drivers for hardware your OS dropped
A Hacker News user's old printer stopped working after a macOS update. They plugged it in over USB and asked Claude to write new drivers. Claude couldn't see the printer, so it gave the user tasks to check the results. It asked them to look at whether gray text faded line by line, compare print quality on two pages, pull the paper out to cause an error, and load it again to test two-sided printing. The printer now works. The same person says they've brought old remotes and a podcast mixer back to life this way. It mostly costs tokens and works best on devices that aren't locked down. This is one person's story, not a tested method.
